Surrounded by a moat and a waste park, the Castle appears at the village square and today shows itself with four oval towers placed on the internal corners, following repeated reconstructions that haven’t indented its horseshoe original structure.
Entirely built in bricks during the XIV century under the Visconti of Milano, on existing encampments and on the ruins of a convent, has been fortress and marquis residence. Under Spanish supremacy it passed from the Visconti till the Savoia, who entrusted Piovera fief to Francesco Maria Balbi, the last feudatory. Niccolò Calvi di Bergolo is the owner of the castle from the end of the years ’60.
