Monterosso structure is the only example in Italy of closed cooperation between architects, painters, sculptors and maecenas with the aim to create a mastr’s residence characterized by the presence of important pieces of art.

In 1920 the Earls Ottolenghi, Arturo and Herta von Wedekind zu Horst, entrusted villa’s project to Federico D’Amato in a first time, and to the famous architect Marcello Piacentini in a second one. Ottolenghi’s Maecenatism brought to Monterosso several artists: Ferruccio Ferrazzi, Fortunato Depero, Adolfo Wildt, Libero Andreotti, Fiore Martelli, Arturo Martini, Rosario Murabito and Venanzo Crocetti.

It has exactly been in Villa Ottolenghi that Arturo Martini produced and brought some of its most important pieces of art, as well as “Il Tobiolo, Adamo ed Eva, i Leoni di Monterosso”.

After the Earls’ death is their child Astolfo who undertakes to complete the villa’s with the park, due to Pietro Porcinai. Not far from the villa, in the park, it rises the Mausoleum with the bronze, nickel and copper engraved monumental portal , due to the masters Ernesto and Mario Ferrari, that is Ferruccio Ferrazzi’s frescoes beauty prelude and Ravenna’s mosaic school one.

The formal garden, the Well, the Studies, the Cisternone and the walk that runs along the structure perimeter, the “Graffiti”, the wisteria pergola, the pool, the cellar … are steps of a path of discovery’: they rise here and there pieces of art in wrought iron, turning armchair in marble and, above all, Herta’s sculptures majesty.
