The architectural and internal structure let to distinguish the spaces long ago reserved as feudatory residence and the other one intended to the function of public defense, government and jurisdsiction finalization, as the weapon room, the audience room, the custodian loggia and the prison.
It had been fief of the Malaspina, the Spinola, the Piuma; it belong to Earls Gallesio-Piuma from over two centuries.
From the last ten years the castle contains the “Gallesiani” Studies Institute whose aim is to boost the research’s sectors pursued by Giorgio Gallesio, illustrious naturalist, “Pomona Italiana”’s author, politic character and illustrious ’800 diplomat.
In the park surrounding the castle there’s an excellent exemple of ’600 “neviera” perfectly preserved.
